Open Letter to Canada Post Customers
On Wednesday, September 2 we became aware that some personal information submitted on the Canada Post Ombudsman’s online complaints system was accessed by an unauthorized third party. The data accessed included name, address, email address, phone number, details and description of the postal service complaint. We have ascertained that 131 complaints received between August 4 and September 2 were vulnerable to this security breach.
Upon being informed of this incident, the Office of the Ombudsman took immediate action to shut down the online complaints function on the Web site. A full investigation into this incident has been launched.
Confidentiality is a fundamental standard of practice that is entrenched in the Ombudsman’s complaint resolution process. We value our customers’ privacy and deeply regret this incident occurred.
If you have further concerns regarding this incident, do not hesitate to contact the Office of the Ombudsman at 1-800- 204-4198 or send an email at ombud@ombudsman.postescanadapost.ca.
Again, please rest assured that all measures are being taken to avoid any future breach that could compromise your trust in our services.
