Newsroom - Letters to the Editor

April 13, 2010

(Letter sent to the editor of the Kitchener Waterloo Record)

Dear Editor:

We would like to provide clarification in regards to the changes announced last week for the Kitchener Mail Processing Plant.

First and foremost, no full or part-time regular employees will lose their employment as a result of this operational realignment. And there will be no impact to the level of postal service provided to our customers.

Beginning in August, the processing of Advertising Mail and parcels originating in Kitchener will be transferred to our processing plant in Mississauga. We anticipate these changes will result in a reduction of 101 positions across all employee groups in the Kitchener-Waterloo region. The reductions will occur over time through natural attrition (retirement, transfers or resignations). We will continue working with our bargaining agents and respect all collective agreements going forward.

We remain committed to serving the people of the Kitchener-Waterloo region and will continue to have a strong presence in the community.
