(Letter to the editor of News North)
Dear Editor:
I would like an opportunity to respond to your May 30th editorial, "Postage due; Canada Post failed Rae in not having fully functioning post office."
As you are no doubt aware, the co-op that housed the Rae-Edzo Post Office went bankrupt and Canada Post was forced to remove the postal values until a secure location could be found. Unfortunately, since April 30th, not two months, residents of Rae-Edzo were unable to purchase postal values locally.
However, local mail delivery was maintained, and for those customers requesting stamps, money orders or other postal services, arrangements were made to provide them via the daily friendship bus from Yellowknife.
Effective today, May 31, Canada Post will provide a fully functioning post office at the present location until the end of June when we expect to be able to announce a permanent solution for mail service in Rae-Edzo.
Sincerely,
John Caines
