Don't let your Literacy Idol lose out!

May 13, 2005

Canada Post reminds Canadians that there are only two weeks left to cast their nomination for their favourite Literacy Idol. Nominations for the 2005 Canada Post Literacy Awards close May 27, and Canada's Literacy Idols need your votes!

The Canada Post Literacy Awards were established more than a decade ago to discover and acknowledge the achievements of Canadians who have made a special effort or an important contribution to literacy. Today, the awards have become Canada's only national honour dedicated to recognizing grassroots literacy initiatives and celebrating the achievements of both learners and those who have helped them learn to read and write.

The Canada Post Literacy Awards recognize up to 45 individuals and organizations for their exceptional work in one of four categories: Individual Achievement, Educator, Community Leadership and Business Leadership. Winners in the Individual Achievement and Educator categories receive a computer system and winners in the Community Leadership category receive a cash award of $2,000.

Those interested in submitting a nomination should visit the Literacy Award website at www.canadapost.ca/literacyawards or obtain a nomination brochure by writing to:
