John McCallum, Minister responsible for Canada Post, announces addition to stamp program

Sept. 30, 2005

They are the highlight of Canada Day festivities on Parliament Hill and the stars of approximately 70 air shows across North America through the rest of the year. They inspire us, they remind us we live in a world of limitless possibilities and they are a Canadian icon second to none. Canada Post today announced that the Canadian Forces Snowbirds, Canada's famous air demonstration squadron, have been added to the 2006 stamp program. Two stamps celebrating their achievements will be issued on June 28, 2006.

"For more than 35 years, the Snowbirds have thrilled Canadians with their precision flying and their fearless aerobatics; and they have been outstanding Canadian Ambassadors, thrilling more than 115 million spectators across North America," said the Honourable John McCallum, Minister responsible for Canada Post. "The teamwork and dedication shown by the pilots and ground crew are an inspiration to us all. I'm pleased to announce that these high-flying Canadian icons will be honoured on Canadian postage stamps."

Additional details about the Snowbird stamps, including design information, will be made available closer to the issue date in June.
