2009 Canada Post Community Literacy Awards - List of Finalists

July 21, 2009

Canada Post today announced the finalists for the 2009 Canada Post Community Literacy Awards. Included on the list of 50 finalists are stories of perseverance, overcoming great odds and the value of community support for literacy programs and their students.

“Once again, our judges faced a very difficult task in narrowing the submissions down to 50 finalists,” noted Robert Waite, Canada Post’s senior vice-president of Corporate Social Responsibility. “Each submission was compelling and told a story of great determination from motivated learners and dedicated educators. Our judges have their work cut out for them in selecting our Literacy Award recipients.”

Canada Post employee volunteers had the difficult task of picking the finalists in Individual Achievement and Educator categories. Literacy advocates from organizations across Canada will determine the final winners. The winners of the 2009 Canada Post Community Literacy Awards will be announced in September and will be recognized at ceremonies in their communities this fall. Prizes of $300 (Individual) and $500 (Educator) will be awarded.
