Statement regarding mail destined for the Gaza Strip

Aug. 20, 2010

On August 9, 2010 Canada Post advised customers that it is unable to accept outgoing mail to the Gaza Strip until further notice. This has not changed. Israel Post continues to inform postal services around the world that mail service to the Gaza Strip is currently unavailable.

In media reports this morning, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers has claimed that they will be attempting to have union members deliver mail bound for Gaza aboard a Canadian boat. This effort is in no way affiliated with, or supported by Canada Post.

All mail bound for Gaza entrusted to Canada Post will be returned to sender until further notice. Our efforts to get mail through to the Gaza Strip will continue, and we will keep customers updated on developments through our website (www.canadapost.ca). Once mail service to the Gaza Strip resumes, customers will be able to mail their returned items at no additional charge.
