Huntsville Post Office marks G8 Summit with special cancellation

May 28, 2010

To commemorate the G8 Leaders Summit taking place near Huntsville in June, Canada Post has issued a special cancellation for the Huntsville Post Office. This cancellation will be applied to all mail handled at the counter of the Huntsville Post Office for the month of June.

“The eyes of the world will be on the Deerhurst Resort, just a few minutes away from our office. We wanted to make sure that the thousands of visitors and members of the international media could have a unique keepsake of their visit to our community,” said Deborah Wagg, superintendent of the Huntsville Post Office.

A cancellation (or cancel for short) is a postal marking applied on a postage stamp or postal stationery. Special cancellations are usually highly sought after by collectors around the world. Those outside of Huntsville wishing a copy of the cancel may do so by writing to the Huntsville Post Office at the following address:

G8 Cancel
Huntsville Post Office
2 Main Street West
HUNTSVILLE ON P1H 1A0

Collectors must include an envelope with their address and sufficient postage for the cancelled items to be returned.
