What is Literature for the Blind?
In support of the visually impaired, our Literature for the Blind service allows specific items used by the blind to be mailed free of charge, either with our XpresspostTM service or Registered Mail (where available).*
*Subject to certain conditions and restrictions such as size and weight restrictions, as defined by the Canada Post Corporation Act and the Regulations.
What can I send with this service?
The following items, subject to the conditions and restrictions as set out in the Material for the Use of the Blind Regulations, can be mailed free of postage as Literature for the Blind:
- Matter impressed in Braille or similar raised type.
- Plates for manufacturing matter impressed in Braille or similar raised type.
- Tapes, records and other sound recordings posted by the blind in Canada.
- Tapes, records and other sound recordings and special paper intended solely for the use of the blind if mailed by or addressed to a recognized institution for the blind.
Service options
Signature Copy (domestic only)
A signature will be required from the recipient at the time of delivery.
Registered Mail
Includes signature copy, delivery confirmation, and up to $100 coverage for loss or damage.

Limits of size, maximum weights and conditions for this service are
determined by the
Department of Justice Canada and are available
on their website.
