PRICE AND SERVICE CHANGES EFFECTIVE JANUARY 16, 2012

Effective January 16, 2012, a number of price adjustments and service improvements were introduced to our suite of Domestic, USA and International Parcel Services.

In spite of fluctuating transportation costs, we have managed to keep price increases on most of our Parcel Services among the lowest in years and well below expected industry increases.

One thing we strive to increase, is the value you get from Canada Post Parcel services. On this front, we continue to bring more improvements to the marketplace so you can get more features and better service at the best price.

The 2012 price changes apply to the following Domestic, USA and International Parcel Services and options. These are some of the smallest price adjustments in several years and are well below expected industry increases.

PRICE CHANGES – OPTIONS

  • The price for Domestic additional Coverage (Insurance) for loss or damage increased $0.50 in 2012, from $1.30 to $1.80 per $100.00 of coverage.
  • The USA/International additional Coverage (Insurance) for loss or damage increased $0.50 in 2012, from $1.50 to $2.00 per $100 of coverage.
  • The Oversize/Unpackaged surcharge increased by $2.50 to $10.00 to reflect the higher cost of manually processing and handling these items. Unlike our competitors, Canada Post does not apply additional surcharges such as extended area surcharges or surcharges for delivery to residential areas, which can add significantly to the final cost of shipping.

There were no other price changes to Domestic, USA or International options.

CUSTOMERS' CUSTOMIZED PRICE BOOK AND CUSTOMER GUIDE

Our Parcel Services customers received a Customized Price Book. This year's Customized Price Book* contains:

  • Customized price sheets, based on the customer’s Parcel Services Agreement.
  • A Rate Code Look-up Table based on the Postal Code of the customer’s mailing address.

*Excludes Book Presort prices. Those prices are included directly in the Book Presort customer letter and not in the Customized Price Book.

CHANGES TO TERMS AND CONDITIONS TO INCLUDE REISSUING FEES

Reissuing fees are now an admissible liability coverage item as per the October 2011 Parcel Services Customer Guide. Canada Post will cover the replacement value of a customer’s documentation up to $500.00, provided the appropriate amount of coverage is purchased at the time of mailing.

This enhancement is beneficial to customers, allowing them to receive reimbursement for costly reissuing fees in the event that important documents are misplaced, such as: passports, passport photos, immigration visa fees, driver’s licence, birth certificates, financial instrument cancellation fees, airline tickets and additional postage fees. Refer to Section 8.3.21 of the Terms and Conditions in the Parcel Services Customer Guide at canadapost.ca/postalguide.
