What is Find a Postal Code?

Find a Postal Code provides you with Postal Code information for any address in Canada simply by identifying a city address, rural route, or PO Box Address.

Find by City Address

  1. Enter your address information in the required fields:
    • Street Number: the street number of the address you are searching for.
    • Street Name: the street name of the address you are searching for.
    • City: the official name of the city, town, village, or community you are searching for.
    • Province: the corresponding provincial code, selected from the dropdown menu.

Please Note: due to municipal amalgamation, some commonly used city names may not be recognized by Canada Post.

  2. You can narrow your search by adding address information to the non-required fields, including Street Type and Street Direction.
  3. Select Find to view results.

Find by Rural Route or PO Box Address

To find a Postal Code for an address in a rural area, you can search by province and view a list of rural routes and their associated Postal Codes.

  1. In the Province dropdown menu, select the province you want to search.
  2. Enter additional address information in at least one other field.
  3. Select Find to view results.

Advanced Search

  1. In the Province dropdown menu, select the province you want to search.
  2. Enter additional address information in at least two other fields.
  3. Select Find to view results.

Find an Address

Find an Address is a reverse search that allows you to find a mailing address by providing valid Postal Code information.

  1. In the Postal Code field, enter the Postal Code you would like to find an address for.
  2. Select Find to view results.

Find a City

If you are unsure about the name of the city you are searching for, or if the city may have amalgamated and is now referred to by another name, Find a City allows you to search through a list of all recognized municipalities in Canada. Results are listed alphabetically and divided by province/territory.

  1. In the Province dropdown menu, select the province you want to search.
  2. In the City field, enter at least the first letter of the city or town you are searching for.
  3. Select Find to view results.

Search Results Screen

If several addresses match your search query, your results will be displayed in a list. Select the correct address from this list, and the address will be formatted according to our addressing standards.

For more information, explore our Canadian Addressing Guidelines.

New City Names

If you are unable to find the new city or municipality name you are searching for, it is possible that changes are still pending in Find a Postal Code. If you cannot find a Postal Code for an address where the city has changed names (for example: North York to Toronto), try again using the former city name (Toronto).

We update our system every month to make sure that our search results provide you with the most current address information.

Languages

City and street names are recognized in the official language of the municipality and cannot be translated.

As well, street types designated by the municipality cannot be translated unless they are one of the following, which have an equivalent in the other official language:

  • ST. → RUE
  • AVE. → AV
  • BLVD. → BOUL
