Parcel

A parcel is any item being shipped, such as a box or an envelope, that needs to be sent faster than regular mail or requires a special feature such as tracking, coverage for loss or damage, or signature, etc. There are a number of different things to consider when sending a parcel.

Choosing a parcel service

Canada Post has several different services available for shipping parcels to ensure that you get access to the features you need. Choose a parcel service by considering the following options:

  • Where is your parcel going—within Canada, to the USA, or internationally?
  • Determine the time sensitivity of your parcel—does it need to get there in a rush, or is time not an issue?
  • Consider how valuable the contents of the package are. Do you require additional coverage, or do you need to track the package to ensure it reaches its destination?

Based on your preferences & destination, Canada Post has a service that will meet your needs.

Tips for using our parcel services

Is your item acceptable?
You are responsible for ensuring that your parcel (including the contents) can be legally shipped. Canadian legislation may prohibit the mailing of certain items, while restricted and prohibited items also vary by country. Learn more about prohibited & controlled items.

When shipping outside of Canada, you must ensure that your item(s) meet all current applicable requirements of the international destination and that all Customs and/or other required documentation is completed. Learn more about what countries you can ship to, a list of services by country, and any import restrictions.

Is your item packed securely?
Make sure your item is securely wrapped with sufficient cushioning and reinforcing material to prevent:

  • Loss of or damage to the item
  • Damage to postal equipment or other mail
  • Injury to persons handling the item

Packing and wrapping methods may vary according to the item to be mailed. For example, fragile, crushable, oddly shaped, and other types of items require special precautions. Learn More
