Question

How does change of address/mail redirection work?

  • You are moving and want to know how our change of address service works.
  • You have filed a change of address but are not sure how the service actually works.

Answer

When you are moving, you can file a change of address (also known as redirection) with Canada Post. We offer 2 types of services:

Permanent – Use this when you are moving and not returning to your original address.

Temporary – Use this when you relocating for an extended period of time, such as when you are cottaging for the summer.

A letter carrier will affix to your mail a yellow label containing your new address. Your mail will then be delivered to your new address. This process protects your privacy—no one sending you mail knows that you have a new address unless you tell them. You may notice that some mail arrives a couple of days after you expect it if the distance between your 2 addresses is significant.
