Question

An item I sent is in customs. What can I do?

The status of an item you sent to an international destination indicates that it is in customs.

Answer

Items you send to another country must go through that country’s customs process.

Once an item is in customs, neither Canada Post nor any other postal administration can intervene or inquire about it. Times to clear customs vary and delays can occur due to the shipment, its documentation or volumes. To avoid delays, be sure to complete all necessary paperwork.

Once an item has cleared customs, it is handed over for delivery. For status updates, visit the destination country’s postal website. You can also get updates through Canada Post’s Track, but delays may occur in receiving information from the foreign post.
