- I have a valid Canadian credit card
- I live in Canada
- I have not had my personal information compromised in the past 6 years
- I use MS Internet Explorer 6+ or Mozilla Firefox 3+
Submit your request at least 5 business days before you move.
This is a 7-step online process that takes about 15 minutes to complete. All information you submit online is fully encrypted and secure.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Your old address and your new address including Postal Codes.
- A valid Canadian credit card.
- A valid email address and Canadian phone number.
- A supported web browser.
- Government-issued identification such as driver’s license will help us validate your identity.

Submitting for someone else?
If you are submitting a request on behalf of someone else you will not be able to complete the registration online. Please visit your local Post Office to apply on behalf of:
- deceased individuals
- friends and relatives
Moving from a shared delivery location?
We cannot accept Change of Address requests online or in person at a Post Office if you receive mail through:
- An institution (e.g. a business, hotel, motel, rooming house, nursing home, hospital, school)
- A shared postal address (e.g. privately administered mailboxes)
Do you have a credit card?
To apply online, you need a valid Canadian Visa, MasterCard, or American Express credit card.
Do you live outside of Canada?
If you are outside of Canada we may not be able to authenticate you.
ID required
Canadian government-issued pieces of identification such as Driver's Licence or Social Insurance Number will increase the chance to authenticate you online.
If you are unable or do not wish to provide the required information online, apply at a Post Office.
Has your personal information been compromised?
If you reported to your financial institution a stolen wallet or compromised ID in the last 6 years, you cannot change your address online because your credit history profile will be flagged as high fraud risk for 6 years. Please apply at your nearest Post Office with original documents confirming your identity.
Do you use Safari?
The Safari web browser is currently not supported. View supported web browsers.
If you do not meet the requirements to change your address online, apply in person at your local Post Office.

How online Change of Address works
- You’ll be asked to provide some personal information such as name, address, date of move (5 days advance notice required), etc.
- You will be requested to provide your credit card information. Please note that your card will only be charged if you are successfully authenticated.
- You will be asked to answer some questions based on your credit history to authenticate your identity. Please note:
- To protect your security, Equifax (Canadian credit bureau) will match your responses to your profile using your date of birth, name, address and a government issued ID you have provided.
- At no time will Canada Post have access to your credit information or the questions asked.
- Once you have passed the online authentication you will receive confirmation of your transaction, allowing you to modify or extend your service.
If you are unable or you do not wish to provide government-issued identification (driver’s licence or SIN) online, please submit a Change of Address in person at your local Post Office using alternative forms of identification.
