Let it snow!
You may know him as Frosty, with his magical hat and well-known song, or you may think of him as Bonhomme, the mascot for Québec City’s famous Carnaval each winter. The snowman is part of our winter world in Canada, a wonderful way for children of all ages to celebrate the snowy season. As December approaches and we begin wishing for a white Christmas, kids across the country are dreaming of enough snow to make the biggest and best snowman of the season.
A snowman is special because we all know he’s only around for a short while. As soon as the temperature begins to rise, he’ll slowly start to sag, melting bit by bit under the warm sun. He reminds us all to enjoy the festive days of ice and snow, because even the coldest winter won’t last forever.
For Christmas 2005, Canada Post issued a special domestic rate (50¢) stamp celebrating the snowman. This friendly fellow appears on the stamp against a festive background shimmering with light and colour, a sign of all the magic of the holiday season. |
