The Canada Post E-commerce Innovation Awards are designed so applicants can easily see where their business fits. For example, there are four awards designed to reflect the evolution of e-commerce, including customer expectations, new markets and social awareness initiatives.

Award winners take home game-changing prizes worth up to $150,000. Each award comes with substantial shipping credits, direct marketing packages, and all winners receive marketing worth up to $10,000, including branding on the Canada Post fleet, exposure through Canada Post digital channels and a half-page advertisement in Canada Post’s Delivering the Online World magazine.

Best Online Start-up Award

$75,000 value

This award recognizes a business that defines “game-changer.” This fearless retailer disrupts industries by turning bold, untested ideas into reality.

They may have entered an emerging market, or identified a new product or service. They are gaining momentum online and establishing themselves as a trailblazer, a company that found solutions to barriers and is forging a path for others. This award is open to businesses that started after January 1, 2016. These young enterprises could be online-only or multi-channel businesses and they established themselves as an early leader in their market. Applicants must be able to outline a growing customer base, as well as an efficient end-to-end process that highlights packaging, warehousing, fulfillment and product awareness to meet unique delivery requirements.

Best Small Business Award

$75,000 value

Total: Shipping $50,000, direct marketing $25,000

This award recognizes an evolving business that’s on its way to making it – with a growing customer base, increasing revenue and growing name recognition.

As it grew, the business made strategic use of inventory, stores, technology and distribution channels to improve the customer experience. This award is open to businesses that started before January 1, 2016. These companies effortlessly combine physical and digital retail and deliver a seamless customer experience. Applicants must show they’re working towards enhancing the shopping experience to meet consumer expectations, including a standout returns strategy, a positive delivery experience and integration across channels.

Best Large Retailer Transformation Award

$150,000 value

Total: Shipping $100,000, direct marketing $50,000

This award recognizes a large retailer who reengineered and re-energized their business for the digital age and has set themselves up for continued growth.

For example, an established brand or bricks-and-mortar business that evolved its model to include e-commerce and shifted its focus to channel integration, customer experience and a seamless transition between channels. Applicants must describe their business’s transformation and articulate a compelling business story with specific examples of change and company evolution. The focus should be on the offline, online, mobile and combined overall retail experience, including strength of cross-channel functionality.

Social Responsibility Award

$150,000 value

Total: Shipping $100,000, direct marketing $50,000

This award recognizes an exceptional leader in charitable or community engagement work, a company dedicated to social change, accessibility or environmental issues.

Any initiative that changes lives or makes a community a better place qualifies for this award. The winning company will have demonstrated a commitment to investing in a community within Canada. Applicants must prove they developed or supported philanthropic, charitable or socially responsible initiatives. Their application should point to programs designed to encourage their customers to get involved. The winner is a company that sets the bar for corporate social responsibility and a sustainable future.

International Conqueror Award

$100,000 value

Total: Shipping $75,000, direct marketing $25,000

This award recognizes a Canadian retailer with a robust international strategy and who is making inroads in overseas markets.

This company’s business model and strategy have deliberately targeted operations and marketing efforts outside Canada. The customer experience is always on brand, but tailored to unique, international audiences. This company offers payment options in relevant currencies; shipping and returns experiences are of the same quality overseas as they are at home. It has implemented an export strategy that supports its bottom line, that is, exports are an important part of the business, revenue is consistently generated through international shipments, and represents a significant growth opportunity. Going international isn’t an afterthought for this company – it’s an integral part of the business strategy.

All About the Customer Award

This award recognizes a business that lives by the adage “the customer is king.”

This retailer knows that brands are only as good as their last customer communication, their last interaction, their last-mile experience. This winner is focused on establishing a brand, building a loyal customer base, and providing a seamless end-to-end customer experience. Applications should include examples of outstanding customer experience that get noticed in a highly competitive landscape. Integrated marketing initiatives and tactics, with a multi-channel approach, occurring throughout the customer’s shopping journey, are hallmarks of a winning application.

Proudly Canadian Award

$100,000 value

Total: Shipping $75,000, direct marketing $25,000

This award recognizes a company that started in Canada and has stayed in Canada creating jobs and opportunity as it grew.

Starting in Canada is part of this company’s DNA and being Canadian is a distinguishing brand characteristic. Customers know the brand is Canadian and they value that identity. To be eligible for this award, a company must highlight that they are home-grown, with a clearly Canadian story. Canadian pride comes through in multiple facets of this business: the design, research and development, some of the manufacturing, or the decision making, is done in Canada, the workforce is Canadian, or product components are sourced here. Whatever it is, this company is Canadian through and through.

Canada Post E-commerce Innovator’s Award

At the awards evening, Canada Post will also present a special award to the e-commerce company of its choice.

The Canada Post E-commerce Innovator’s Award is given to a company that has made a significant contribution to advancing, enabling, defining or revolutionizing e-commerce in Canada. The winning company may be selected from eligible applications in all awards categories, or it may be selected from outside that group. Companies do not need to be finalists or winners in any category to be considered for the Canada Post E-commerce Innovator’s Award.
