    We provide grants to Canadian schools, charities and organizations in an effort to make a difference in the lives of children in our communities. Donations to the Community Foundation can be made at any time to contribute to the grants.

    The 2021 grant application period is open as of March 8th and closes April 1st at 12:00 pm (ET).

    We offer 2 types of grants

    Community-based support projects

    Eligible projects increase the capacity of an organization. Such projects create or expand services rather than maintaining existing services, for example hiring staff or purchasing new equipment.


    Project grants can total up to $25,000* each.

    Signature Grant

    This grant is in place to contribute to the overall work and mission of national organizations that deliver programs or support to children and youth.


    Up to 3 Signature Grants of $50,000 each can be awarded every year.

    What you need to apply

    Submit information about your organization and project to be considered for grant funding.

    Information on your organization

    To be considered for a Foundation grant, you’ll need to send us the following information about your organization.

    • Name and signature of a top executive (charity**, non-profit organization**, school, community organization, library or Canadian amateur athletic association)
    • Names of your volunteer Board of Directors/organizing committee
    • Detailed project plan
    • Budget
    • Financial statement (valued up to $5,000)
    • Notice to Reader or Compilation Engagement (valued at $5,001-$15,000)
    • Review Engagement Report (valued at $15,001-$25,000)
    • Independent audited financial statements are required for Signature grants (valued at $25,001-$50,000)

    Information on your project

    You’ll need to submit detailed information about your project.

    • Description of your project indicating how it’s community-based, community-driven or relies on community resources
    • Outline capacity-building activities, such as hiring or training staff, program costs, purchasing or construction of new equipment or facilities
    • Plan that outlines resources, other funding sources, clear objectives, skills and experience of team members
    • Examples of past successful programs for Signature Grant eligibility

    Important deadlines

    March 8, 2021: Applications are accepted

    April 1, 2021 (12:00 pm ET): Application deadline

    April to August: Review and trustee approval period

    August 2021: Decision is communicated to applicants

    Fall 2021: Public announcement of grant recipients

    March 2022: New application period opens

    * Grants to schools, school/parent organizations, daycares, sports teams and all recreation facilities (pools, ice rinks, skateboard parks, etc.) will not exceed $5,000.

    **Charities must be registered with a Canadian Charitable Registration Number and non-profit organizations must provide a valid B/N registration number.
