Our Lunar New Year stamps are among our most popular – take a look from past to present at the issues we have released so far
Canada Post has released the ninth issue in our 12-year Lunar New Year series, which has become one of the most popular series in our commemorative stamp program.
This year’s two-stamp issue ushers in the Year of the Rooster, which runs from January 28, 2017 to February 15, 2018. Those born under this sign are said to be honest, courageous and confident. Marked for success, Roosters achieve their goals through a combination of wit, charm and hard work.

Year of the Ox, issued 2009: Oxes are known for their diligence, strength and determination, though struggle as communicators. Famous Canadians Oxes include jazz pianist Oscar Peterson and pop singer Carly Rae Jepsen.
Year of the Tiger, issued 2010: People born in the Year of the Tiger are brave, competitive and charming, yet sometimes impetuous, irritable and overindulged. Singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot, comedian and actor John Candy, and comedian Martin Short are all Tigers.
Year of the Rabbit, issued 2011: Rabbits have exceptional taste and tend to be expressive and value a sense of honour. This group includes comedian Mike Myers, singer-songwriter Michael Bublé, and NHL superstar Sidney Crosby.
Year of the Dragon, issued 2012: Dragons are courageous, tenacious and intelligent. Canadian Dragons include hockey superstar Gordie Howe, game-show host and TV personality Alex Trebek, and comedian and actor Dan Ackroyd.
Year of the Snake, issued 2013: People born in the Year of the Snake are said to be deep thinkers, soft-spoken and graceful. Snakes learn fast and are shrewd in business. Actor Christopher Plummer, former prime minister John Turner and singer-songwriter Shania Twain are under this sign.
Year of the Horse, issued 2014: Horses are noted for their self-reliance, sense of adventure and ability to manage money. Actress Rachel McAdams and singer-songwriter The Weeknd are both Horses.
Year of the Ram, issued 2015: Those born under this sign are caring, sensitive, artistic, fashion-savvy and intuitive. They long for beauty and to see the world. Famous Canadian Rams: former prime minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau, songwriters Robbie Robertson and Joni Mitchell, and Olympic sprinter Donovan Bailey.
Year of the Monkey, issued 2016: Those born in the Year of the Monkey are said to possess brilliance, flexibility and inventiveness, along with an excellent memory and strong will to succeed. Famous Canadian Monkeys include singer Céline Dion, actress Kim Cattrall and legendary pianist Glenn Gould.
