Commemorate the 100th anniversary of the tragic Halifax Explosion with this booklet of 10 Permanent domestic stamps.

The stamps depict the aftermath of a collision between two ships in the Halifax Harbour Narrows on the morning of Dec. 6, 1917. One of the two, the French vessel Mont-Blanc, was laden with volatile explosives. The stricken Mont-Blanc caught fire and drifted toward shore, where it exploded. The massive blast caused nearly 2,000 deaths, 9,000 injuries, and millions of dollars in damage. At the time, it was the largest man-made explosion in history.

This unique stamp from Halifax-based Burke & Burke Design combines the scene of the fateful collision with the dramatic front page from the following day's Halifax Herald.
