Import Restrictions

Senders should determine import restrictions from the country's authorities before posting:

Clocks and watches

Insurance is necessary for all articles containing clocks, including alarm clocks, travelling clocks and watches. Insurance is not necessary for separate parts of clocks and watches.

Import permits

An import permit is required for many goods. Before posting any item, senders should confirm that the addressee has any necessary permit. An import permit is not necessary for items that are:

  • non-commercial (excluding used clothing) sent from a private person to a private person
  • of less than 60 Algerian dinars, and no more than 240 dinars in 12-months to the same person.

The government insists that imports meet specific testing, labelling and certification requirements. The Ministry of Health requires distributors to obtain authorizations to sell imported drugs. Drugs must have been marketed in the country of origin, as well as in a third country prior to being allowed to import. When food products arrive in Algeria, they must have at least 80 percent of their shelf life remaining.

The following documents may be required:

2. Bill of Lading or Airway Bill

3. Certificate of Origin

4. Insurance Policy

5. Packing List

6. Laboratory/Standard/Health Certificate or approval by the pertinent regulatory authority

7. Copy of trade register under Algerian Law

8. Copy of the tax card issued by the regional tax services.

Commercial goods mailed to Algeria must include an invoice.
