Somalia requires an import permit for all commercial goods. Before posting any item, senders should confirm that the addressee has the necessary permit. Senders should determine import restrictions from the country's authorities before posting:
- clothing and materials, used
- insect killers
- medicines and drugs
- milk, condensed
- radio apparatus
- tobacco and tobacco products
- weapons and part thereof.
In addition to items considered non-mailable matter, the following are prohibited:
- counterfeits, misleading marks
- foodstuffs with insufficient shelf life
- pornographic materials
- lottery tickets
- toxic waste.

Private packages should be endorsed 'private - no commercial purpose', or 'personal effects', or 'gift only', as appropriate. Commercial goods must be endorsed 'commercial'.
